Shelter-in-Place is a procedure implemented by companies or facilities to protect their employees or occupants from a potentially hazardous situation that may be happening in the immediate area. This may be the result of chemical, biological, or nuclear contaminants in the air, a tornado, storm watch, or pandemic outbreak. More Prepared's Shelter-in-Place Kits offer necessary supplies to sustain those isolated in a situation like this. For more information on shelter-in-place supplies and how to prepare, see below.
How to Prepare for Shelter-in-Place
You will need to identify a room or an area that can be sealed off from outside contaminants. This room may vary depending on the situation but an interior room with few entrances/exits is probably the best choice. Close all windows and doors and turn off any air conditioning, furnaces, or fans. Seal off the windows and doors by covering them with plastic sheeting and securing it with duct tape. You are creating a barrier between you and the outside. Depending on how long your shelter-in-place lasts, you will want to make sure that you have adequate items in the room with you. Some shelter-in-place supplies to consider are food, water, flashlight, radio, blankets, and a toilet.
