Shelter-In-Place Emergency Kits & Supplies | More Prepared
Shelter-in-Place is a necessary procedure employed by companies or facilities to protect their employees or occupants from a potentially hazardous situation that may be happening in the immediate area. This may be the result of an accidental release of chemical, biological or nuclear contaminants in the air, a tornado, storm watch or pandemic outbreak. You will need to identify a room or an area that can be sealed off from outside contaminants. This room may vary depending on the situation but an interior room with few windows and/or entrances/exits is probably the best choice. Close all windows and doors and turn off any air conditioning, furnaces or fans. Seal off the windows and doors by covering them with plastic sheeting and securing it with duct tape. You are creating a barrier between you and the outside. Depending on how long your shelter-in-place lasts, you will want to make sure that you have adequate supplies in the room with you. Some things to consider are food, water, flashlight, radio, blankets and a toilet.
