Fire protection safety for the home and business starts with basic fire protection equipment. Every home or business should have the following items in case of a fire. An ABC fire extinguisher, a smoke mask or smoke hood for every family member or employee and a fire escape ladder for the children if you have bedrooms located on the second floor of your home.

Good fire safety also includes a fire escape plan that should include fire drills and fire exit identification.
